Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on November 3, 2009 by n8vandyke

Hey guys. Just wanted to let you know that I will be out doing some live painting on Saturday, November 7th. It will be for a Four G’s Issue Release Party. I was fortunate enough to be interviewed/featured in the magazine and am thinking it will make for a really fun night. It will be in San Francisco at Club 6 wich is at 60 6th Street @ Market. I’ll be showing up around 9pm when the doors open. If you are around, swing by and have a drink.

Random dumbness

My buddy, Noel, e-mailed me a little while back with a joke of an idea that I took too far. He came with a few pics and thought it would be funny to draw a rabbit doubling as a unicorn. Now, I NEVER take other people’s suggestions for drawings but this one was too good to pass up on. I had to do it… and this is what came of it. Thanks, Noel.

There’s a new toy in town… well, almost.

Here we are with another update. I just figured I’d help leak the word that I have a new chimp toy in the works! This one has been a long time coming. There were a lot of hang-ups in it’s production but it’s coming together and looking great. I’m currently doing a bunch of artwork for the box and figured I might as well tease you with a shot of the toy and the turn-arounds I did for the sculptor. I’ll keep you guys updated on this one in future posts. Until then… enjoy an early look.

WATCH ME DRAW!!!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on October 1, 2009 by n8vandyke

It’s been a good while since I have posted here. Gotta’ get better at that. In any event, I feel like I finally have something worth posting.

I was asked by my buddies at Massive Black to do a tutorial video of me doing what I do best (other than drinking). I chose to draw my good friend and 2D art director of MB, Coro. I spent the day being filmed drawing his mug and then we later got together and did some commentary over it. There’s a lot of educational technique we discuss as well as it being two good friends just shooting the shit. The full length video is over an hour long and is available for $20 as a download and is well worth it. There is also a video trailer up here on YouTube. I hope you guys like it. Let me know what you think.

Description on Conceptart.org

“Since Nate Van Dyke dreams of Coro’s face every night it came as no surprise when he chose him to be the subject of his inking demonstration with Massive Black. It was also no surprise that he asked Coro to be a co-host since they used to work together in the same office at Shaba Games. This video features two veteran artists and friends discussing a variety of topics ranging from drawing materials, men’s lips, and the amount of control that an artist has over the final piece. Also included are many jokes, gratuituous use of the word “dude”, and bonus drawing footage without voiceover. If you’re easily offended you might want to stay away, everyone else please enjoy.”

Cheers,

N8

My Very Own Lil’ Buddy!

Posted in Uncategorized on May 24, 2009 by n8vandyke

I’m a bit behind on my posting and I figured this would be a fun update to get back into the swing of it.

SO… I’ve often joked with my close friends about “owning” a midget one day. I’ve had a fascination with little people for as long as I can remember. Since I’m 6′9″ I think it has something to do with the whole opposites attract concept. Because of my size this world presents a lot of challenges in a similar but opposite way that it would a little person. A little person doesn’t have to duck through doorways and I don’t have to worry about being to short to ride a roller coaster.

As a belated birthday gift my girlfriend rented me a midget (YES… you can rent a midget).  We went down to LA to hang out with a couple of my best friends. I was at the bar getting a drink and saw a midget walk in. I tried to contain my excitement and not stare at him because I know all too well what it is like to be stared at everywhere I go. I continued to order my beer and all of a sudden I hear this voice from behind me say  something along the lines of, “Damn tall people think they own the world.” I turn around ready to say something and realize he is wearing a t-shirt I drew. At this point I think this is the coolest coincidence in the world. I point at his chest and say “You’re wearing my shirt”. He denied it and I went to tickle him. He told me not to touch him so I decided to pick him up and play with him. It’s at that moment I am told that he was rented for me and I got to hang out with him for the next five hours. We proceeded to drink it up and have a great time that night. He goes by Lil’ Jon and turned out to be a really great guy with an awesome outlook on life. Next time I’m in LA and you see me with a Lil Jon feel free to join us for a drink of five.

The first encounter. Me calling him out on wearing my shirt…

My good man Jerry Bernardo had no choice but to combine his love of dirt bikes and my artwork and this is what happened. All made possible thanks to FAHQ MC with help from Powersport Grafx aka Ride PG.

HELLO, CLEVELAND!!!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on January 30, 2009 by n8vandyke

Hey guys,

If you live in Cleveland chances are you have nothing to do. Well, I have a solution! This weekend my buddy, Roland Sands, is going to be showcasing his custom motorcycles along with all of the other top industry cats at the 28th Annual Cycle World International Motorcycle Show. As you may remember I did some mural work with Roland Sands and other top artists a number of months ago. Well, those murals are on display at these bike shows and this is one of them. So, go to the show and ask Roland about the night I slept in his back yard. OH, and here’s my mural and the man’s bike on the cover of a little mag… just for this event…

For a trip down memory lane, here I am hanging out with Roland back at his place. I’m sporting his latest signature helmet as best I can…

I made the cover for the Portland Mercury which is a weekly paper. It’s one of the pieces from my solo show there at the Upper Playground Gallery on 5th and Couch. The show will be up for the rest of the month so go check it out if you haven’t already.
