Rusty Tiger

Here are a couple of drawings that I did for issue #35 of Make: Magazine. For the first illustration I also did a little hand modeling. The really cool thing about this tiger piece is that the orange and black pigments are made of ground up nuts and bolts which this article tells you how to make. The original drawing actually has a rusty smell to it. When I was working on it and had the jars of pigment open my studio smelled like a boat dock.

Here is the other illustration I did for this issue of Make: Magazine. It was a lot of fun to do two totally different styles of drawing for the same mag. The article that accompanies this drawing is all about readers sharing stories of their experiments gone wrong. For the illustration they wanted a guy getting shocked with a Wile E. Coyote twist to it.

I was recently commissioned by a Biologist at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. She asked me to do a total of four pieces based on animals that are protected yet still being hunted for their fins, ivory and so on. All of the below pieces are 16″x20″ mixed media on paper. They were a lot of fun to do and it was bitter sweet to see the project come to a close. Click on images to enlarge.

I recently teamed up with the fine people over at COPIC Markers on a limited edition t-shirt. There are only 250 available and they come in both men’s and women’s cuts. Hurry up and get ’em while the getting is good because I don’t think supplies will last long on this one.
